Sound
is ambient, and can travel through space so to explore the subject of sound and the meaning of synaesthesia, I wanted to create
a space that was inspired by my experience of isolation whilst ice climbing in Scotland in a Snow whiteout in Winter. Using
real life recordings of natural sounds taken from the location I was at I have developed 'Whiteout' a walk-through
sound and sculpture installation. This is a journey of isolation, fear, calm
and my encounters of the unpredictable weather experienced in the mountain in winter.
In this installation I have invited the viewer to engage with this idea of isolation and
the peaceful tranquility of this experience. This white space filled with sculpture offers visitors to the installation an
opportunity to walk through the sculpture and sense their own experience of whatever they find here. I have tried to capture
the changing light from day to evening to suggest the eerieness and darkness found amongst snow filled crevices, frozen vegetation,
the dense whiteness of falling snow and hidden frozen streams.
